Does Your Home Have Curb Appeal?
Let's talk about curb appeal. Curb appeal is one of those things that is the first thing that people are going to see when they get to your place, so your curb appeal is important. Now I'm not saying that you need to spend $100,000 and make this place look like the botanical gardens or anything, but we do want to cover some of the basics. So what are some of the types of things that we're going to look at?
Now, I'll preface by saying it does matter on the price point of your home, of course. The really high end stuff you're probably going to do more work, but let's just say your mid-level and you're below. What are some of the typical kinds of things that you might look for? Well, number one is I would say probably do at least light landscaping packages, some fresh mulch, and have a nice hard edge. If you just have the grass coming up and it's all kind of wavy and a little bit sloppy going to the mulch bed, it usually doesn't look very clean.
Depending on the season, you want to try to have some kind of flowers that have some kind of pop, whether if it's the fall like right now, you'd put some mums out. If it's spring or summer, you're going to put some kind of grasses or flowers that maybe purple or yellow or red that kind of make it pop a little bit. Kind of give you some contrast between the front of the house and where the garden is. Few other things are your shutters. Are your shutters, if they're wood or plastic, are they cracked or broken? If they are, you might want to replace them or fix them. If they're vinyl and they're all faded from the sun, one tip that works pretty well is if you take some olive oil and rub it on, that actually will bring a lot of that glisten back to it.
Likewise, your front door. How's your front door look? Is it beat up? Is it dented? Are there any broken windows in it? Does it need a fresh coat of paint? For a long time having your front door color matching your shutters was in. Now, people are doing a lot of things that have a contrast in color. That color shifts every year. What's a little bit trendy now might not be trendy next year, so we've got to take a look. If you're going to paint your door, let's look to see what's hot right now. I will mention though, if you're in a place that has a Homer's Association or Condo Association, make sure that the color that you're going to paint it is not going to be a problem with the association rules.
Another little thing is if you have a sidewalk, maybe like a little stoop or something, the landing, if the cement is looking old or the wood is looking old, sometimes putting a fresh coat of paint on that can go a long way. If the sidewalk continues all the way out, you might want to paint that as well. If there's a fence and it's an old metal rusty fence, maybe I need to spray that with some Rustoleum, either black or silver, just kind of do... We'll go through these things with you, but what I'm just trying to get you to think about, go outside, take a look, see what you're working with, and let's put our best foot forward without spending a million dollars on it. Let's have that nice, attractive curb appeal. Hope that makes good sense. I will see you in the next video.
